Found an old plastic container in my basement and threw in some silica sand over the LFS that I had earlier put it in (fished out all the floating perlite). New home for the mat of U. gibba from @Lloyd Gordon. Can’t wait for it to flower!
It does better if it's just lying on the bottom with maybe 1-2 cm of water.

Ok, I guess I will decant some of the water. I guess ‘a few cm’ of water does mean 1-2cm. I was trying to follow along the set up described here: http://www.sarracenia.com/pubs/focus5.html.

The less water, the more they flower (l don't mean you should let them dry out!). Some of mine is in a dish under a pot and flowers a lot.

i just read a post about someone dealing with hair algae on their u. gibba, we seem to have a similar setup and i’d like to be preventative of any future bad mold or algae growth, just considering I have it in stagnant water. i already have some in my drainage trays doing well, i just quite like this plant and wanted to give some it’s own little container! suggestions & advice appreciated

They are actually not aquatic but affixed aquatic. They grow way more vigorously if they have a surface to grow on.

found a nice 4x8’ clear container, filled it with a few centimeters of moist peat, topped it with a cm or so of sifted washed playsand, layered in a few clumps of U. Gibba & topped it with another cm or so of sand and worked it into the clumps. thoughts?
You don't need the medium. Just a surface with a 1/2 cm of water. Water that drains through the CP pots is best.

i have some in my trays already, just really like the plant, want it to flower, and give it its own little space. once it gets crowded i’ll toss more in my trays
It flowers easily once it gets a certain mass and if the light is fairly bright.

assuming you’ve read this but it was a fun read nonetheless. it’s where i got the idea for the little setup. if it fills in, i’ll scale it up and do a little tray of gibba in the school greenhouse
I gave away all my gibba. Now it grows like crazy on the bottom of my Heli terrarium. No medium at all. To expend any effort on it is wasted.

I think i might’ve added a bit too much peat & sand, could’ve gotten away with adding much less. Do ya really think it’s a waste? Sure, it’s a weed, but it’s still a fun plant. i did the setup in such a small tray because I don’t have the space in my closet, but I could upscale this into a large tray in the greenhouse instead. the clump you gave me has grown and i’ve separated it out in my water trays, doing well. I just feel like it deserves it’s own little place to thrive and be the star of the show hah
It doesn't need any soil. After many months, it builds up a mucky base which is ideal for dews and utrics.
