I use a 1 cc syringe with a fairly fine hypodermic (not sharp). I squirt water around the bases of the plants near the roots. The 1 cc is enough for a 2-3" shallow bowl. If it's still moist from the day before, I skip a watering.

I see, thanks! Seems I was slightly underwatering then. Will make sure the top remains moist but not allow the media to get fully saturated.

The whole thing is mineral mix, though it seems to really hold onto water well. I wet the very top as Lloyd mentioned and it’s still mostly damp two days later. Should I have only put the mineral mix as a top dressing?
 
As long as your wicking water up, you'll be good. You can always make a pot but put nothing but your mineral mix in it (no ping) and then if you're curious about how moist it is, just dig through that pot to see how far down the water layer is.

I'm lazy so do use a peat mix on the bottom, so that there is reserve moisture in case I didn't check on them for a few days.

Thanks for the advice! It doesn’t seem to wick up water too well, though it does retain it surprisingly long. Poor dudes have been repot like 4x within the past month so I’ll keep top watering for a bit, let em de-stress before adding some peat to the mix.
 
I wouldn't repot them. Sometimes with mineral mixes, especially during summer carnivorous growth, you might have to put them in water all the time. And maybe deeper water than you normally do so that it does wick up closer to the surface.

It's sometimes tricky to find the right balance but once you do then you're good! I'm a fan of mineral mixes.

Few neps. Thanks again Willy for the extras, each maxima pot came with 1 main & 3 seedlings. Assume these still got another year or so before they’d get to be the size of the main ones yeah?

Potted the longifolia in nep mix, thinking the extra drainage should help as I plan to experiment with occasional top vs tray watering. Gonna top dress with live moss whenever I get around to it.
