Thought I’d make a thread to organize all my miscellaneous photos

Fed my drosera a bloodworm two days ago and woke up to this. Dunno if all that’s necessary but at least he’s got the spirit

First pitcher coming in on my Rebecca Soper, purchased & hard repot from peat to sphagnum ~2months ago

Purchased & hard repot this briggsiana only 2 weeks ago. Pitcher was still developing but was pleasantly surprised it didn’t die off given the stress

Sarr growth coming in nicely

Red Dragon VFT not so nicely. Was stuck in transit a week and arrived with a developing flower stalk that was promptly trimmed off. Haven’t seen any new growth.

Conversely my supermarket VFT is doing excellent with tons of new growth.

My leaning sanguinea (who just wants to lean for some reason, doesn’t seem to be top-heavy or phototrophic) that was also stuck in transit seems to be doing alright. Weird red pits on the second most recent leaf, but the newest leaf it’s put out under my care seems perfectly normal, albeit a bit short.

Same lighting as the Rebecca Soper yet only very faint blushing, might up the light in a month’s time or so if it seems to want more.

Took a botany course at my university this semester and my prof graciously gifted me a cutting off her nepenthes (unknown species). Each have three nodes, and the stem slightly split at the cut end for added surface area. One in sphagnum+perlite ain’t looking so hot, leaf edges turning a bit yellow. Cutting in just perlite seems to be having no issues — though this difference could be attributed to the presence of the growth tip.

I'm a bit worried about your N. sanguinea though -- several of the older leaves don't look quite right to me. Could be a pest issue, though with any luck they will have cured the problem before selling it to you. Does the new leaf look okay on the underside? It might be smart to keep it separated from the others until you're sure it's not contagious.

Hm the new leaf seems to be perfectly healthy, though the older leaves do have these red spots underneath. I assumed it was just edema and the dying leaves a symptom of having been stuck in transit for a week in 1-2° weather. Does this seem suspicious?

The brown parts on the stem seem to be old leaves that are decaying; though gently tugging on them theres resistance and the stem itself seems solid throughout. Attached is a pic of when I got em

Yeah, the older parts of the stem will eventually turn brown and become hard and woody. That's normal. Also, the old dead leaves will never come off easily; you'll have to trim them if you want them gone. I assume in the wild the dead leaves are still useful for holding the plant in position, since it's basically a vine.

Yeah, the older parts of the stem will eventually turn brown and become hard and woody. That's normal. Also, the old dead leaves will never come off easily; you'll have to trim them if you want them gone. Haha no worries! Thanks for the info, this was my first ever plant shipment so I don’t have much experience diagnosing the signs of transit water/light/temp stress

Oh no if it’s any consolation, I was always worried about mealy infestations until I eventually got one and learned to treat it. Could be a valuable (but stressful) experience at the very least

Was worried about the brown of the stem so I gently uprooted my sanguinea. Although it’s quite brown, it seems like it’s just previously cut leaves—stem seems solid throughout and roots are firm, though slightly compact.

Sarr ‘Velvet’ pitcher also opened. Gonna start hardening em off outdoors after May 24th.

Unknown (maybe ventricosa) cutting seems to have started rooting (in pure perlite), seems pretty quick for only a month’s time

Plant mail! Hoping the sarr will still bloom despite shipping stress. For the leaning pitcher—would anyone recommend staking it for better balance? Find the rhizome is quite loose due to the weight on the one side.

Also I know pings had few roots but it was quite the shock to see basically no roots lol. Pat down the soil under its leaves using a bobby pin to avoid uprooting it.

Yep, I've trimmed pings down to no roots, and they are fine, I see new roots coming in a few days. In pots overgrown with heavy moss, they basically lose all their roots when I pull them out.

I see. Will try to jury-rig some sort of temp trellis till this pitcher eventually dies off. Rest seem to be growing in fairly straight. Thanks for the advice!

Odd, crinkled green leaves/traps growing out of a recently purchased “red dragon”. Dunno what the cause is, but it seems happy enough so I’ll let em do their thing.

Drosera starting to sprout, about 4w since sowing. Mostly in the D. capensis pot but all of em are slowly emerging. Will start leaving the humidity dome off for longer periods, shouldn’t be too much of a shock anyway given ambient RH hovers around 70% or so.

Almost-finalized setup. Just waiting on some pendant lights to swap out a few bulbs for wider-coverage ones.

Still unsure on how frequently I should be watering my pings. Seem to be happy if I let the tray dry out for about 2 days before refilling though

High-light setup (~500ppfd centre, 400ppfd edges)

Really did not expect this many seeds to germinate lol

Vfts have really started to flourish after acclimating to full outdoors sun

Sarrs hanging out with the cukes till I can give em proper wind protection

For the mexipings, the medium can dry out. I wet the surface daily if the surface is dry.
