It seems you'd have to eat a LOT of Pawpaws to get toxic but then there's always someone who will be weird and prove you wrong. I ate quite a bit this year-you can judge if I'm more brain-damaged than usual. I can attest that you should NOT eat them if they're over-ripe (past the nice, soft, yellowy stage -think greyish). I did and it was not fun (details are not for the faint of heart).
Never tried,heard it is native to North America.Should be fruit come the fall.

Thanks,yes...I just read that skin and seeds are toxic to humans.Native for eating fresh when bright orange. Do not cook! Bad chemical reaction. Also toxic in large quantities, some cultivated varieties are much less toxic.
