PawPaw tree.

I have the space and a forest that ive been restoring i just need the plants lol
 
It's a long term project, probably requiring a small Grove for at least 5 years. Are you interested?
 
They are native to Southcentral Ontario, Sib's neighbourhood. If you look around, there's suggestions that they might do Ok in zones 5-6, but they might not survive a bad winter and would probably never have fruit ripening in zone 5.
 
I tried to start a Paw Paw patch in the woods two years ago. I just happened to go check on them yesterday so see how they survived winter #2 and as it turns out the deer love Paw Paw.

Sib they chewed the one I bought when you were visiting last year almost to the ground. :( If they survive I am going to have build some hardware cloth cages around them.
 
The seeds sit there for months, then the root pushes them above the soil then finally the leaves appear. 2 germinated so far.

3 plants. The Little one was chewed by squirrels but was able to produce leaves from the shoot.

I have i think 12 now? Someone locally was selling them for like $3 each, not big but hoping some establish
 
I know this is an old thread, but I’ve wanted to get some of these trees for a long time. I’ve heard of people trying to plant these now in colder regions too. The big downside, however, is the pollination. You need to have two trees for pollination, and there is a special small fly that needs to pollinate the flowers unless you want to do it by hand. The fly doesn’t live in cold climates. The tree may grow, but you won’t get any fruit. I’ve heard of people tying rotting bags of meat to their paw paw trees to try and attract bugs and flies with the off chance they will pollinate the flowers. If places like Michigan are considered too cold for the paw paw pollinator, I’d be interested to hear how they do in Canada.
 
eBay or Etsy probably. But who knows how hardy those will be. They probably come from a tree in Florida and will die in Canada. You could probably save a few years of growing by just buying a young tree from a nursery that grows Canadian hardy trees. I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on two of these-

i you would like wild collected seed I think I still have some, for sure in the fall for fresh seed . I know a few paw paw groves with tasty fruit.
