Dealing with birds

I tried a purp in a shelf pot in my little water pond here in Niagara Falls once.. either birds or night critters would rip up the sphagnum daily. I might want to try again with peat moss. Think it's the sphagnum they're tempted by?

I had the same problem. If it was around this time of year that happened, then it was likely birds looking for nesting material. Sphagnum seems to be their preferred construction material as they leave peat only mixes alone. Fortunately, the marauding lasted only for a few days.

Edit: I should add that my plants are elevated on waist high tables so it rules out most 4 legged critters

I'm getting some unwanted visitors on my patio. These blue chickens are stealing my sphagnum moss and making it a murder scene every few hours. They even dig up my Sarracenia purpurea yesterday, the poor plant that survived winter and just trying to recover!

I kinda specialize in poisons for birds... the most effective and illegal is lily of the valley- nah just kidding, birds in my yard do the same thing.
