Coarse Sand Is a Nightmare to Find

I needed some more sand so I checked out home hardware.

I'm going to give this one a shot instead of the target brand one from the pool supply store.

Anyone looking for sand, I think there's home hardware's pretty much all across the country?

I didn't feel like driving half an hour to the small town one so I just ordered it online and I'll pick it up in town next week.
I'll see how it looks when I get it, But I found some stuff in a few aquarium forums that said it worked really well and was incredibly clean.

Yesteryear, silica sand was common in public ash trays ( next to an elevator) as well as in the manufacturing of sand cast parts like fire hydrants , engine blocks, etc. Also in some cases, it was used in sandblasting. Sand casting is not popular anymore unfortunately . Best way to find any is ask quarry manufacturer like Lane Mountain Company where theor sand can be bought or what industry still uses it. Also, Caribea sand for saltwater aquariums, there may be limestone and other such minerals mixed in . Their sand is also known as live sand as it contains beneficial bacteriA f9r seeding ones reef tank.

I picked a bag of this brand from a Home Hardware store. Leeched it in distilled water for a week. Went from. 6ppm to 15ppm. Had to rinse it a few times at the start as it was dirty.

I see there are plenty of home hardware stores around the country so should be easy to pick some up.

I think you can just use tap water to rinse. At least until all the dust is gone. If you want, you can rinse with low mineral water just before use.
The rinse water will never go to 0 ppm TDS due to silicic acid even with distilled water. The lowest is around 11.
Have you tested with vinegar?
Also I would use a kitchen sieve and just keep the coarser grains. Better for soil aeration.
 
I haven't tested with anything other then a water soak. I'll toss a bit in some vinegar maybe tomorrow.

TDS in water held steady at 15ppm.

Put some in vinegar and there was no reaction. TDS went from 606 for pure 5% vinegar to 635 and steady at that.

I guess you mean TDS = 15 ppm. I meant to add vinegar to the sand and look for bubbles. Bubbles would indicate limestone which is bad for most CP's.
