Travelling with Carnivorous Plants

My Wife and I are thinking about moving out west to British Columbia from here in Nova Scotia. I was wondering is it possible to travel with Carnivorous Plants without getting hassled by customs? Will they need paperwork even though I am not going across to another country or anything? Has anyone here ever done this? If so how did you do it?

Regards,
Jonathan

No need to worry about anything! Just pack up and fly/drive!

I’ve moved across the country several times with my collect, large amounts of plants are work to move but small collects are pretty easy.

If you end up moving and need advice feel free to post here!

As far as 'provincial border control' goes you will be A-okay. Just don't travel through the states as a shortcut, even if you intend to to make no additions or subtractions to your luggage.

I know you asked H20, but I'll add my comments too:

Labels are for your own identification, there will be no 'patrols' etc in Canada that would care.

I think it's important to know how big your collection is for people to comment properly.

My collection would fit in the bed of a truck, just pots lined up and not stacked. I'd build a little platform of ply wood a few inches above the pots so I can stack more stuff on top. Or, build a multilayer shelf out of pallets, similar to how nurseries stack their rhododendrons for example.

It also depends when your planning on the move. If they are in dormancy, you could trim them down and save alot of floor space by just throwing them into a bin and repotting out west.

Goodluck with your move, there are plenty of resources here if you ask the right questions.

I should have noted this before but we are flying out therefore will we have issues with customs and do they have to be labelled for flight? Sorry should have stated that before.

You should not have any customs from Canada to Canada. You will go through security, but they don't care about your plants because they do not pose a danger to any of the passengers.

Did you fly or drive with your large collection?

I'm also curious about how to pack plants up for a fairly extended time. I'll be moving about 3 hours away in the future with 6 1020 trays & a few house plants. I'm hoping it's as simple as grabbing some spare boxes from the local nursery that will fit them & just sticking the entire tray into it with some cushioning around some pots if needed? I did a lot of tropical unpacking in my green house work this year, I discovered that there's always a huge amount of 1020 sized boxes around which I hope to use to my advantage.

Are Sundews okay to travel with as well domestically without any issues? I have some D.Capillaris.
