To Do List: New Forum Suggestions and Ideas

We need a place for donation. Some person will decide to donate money for the forum and CP conservation. So there should be a donation PayPal account with open finance. One manager, but with transparent managing.
 
Sending a PM seems to be quite different than the old forum, some members have said that they don't know how to do that.
Perhaps it will help if there's a post on how to PM? :)
 
I just realized that the upload picture option is not available in the conversation menu (when you PM). Could be nice to add it.
 
Sorry, I've been away for a couple days and have yet to catch up on messages and PMs.

@Samskwatch I noticed this when testing, I have the ability but it doesn't look like anyone else does. I have a feeling this is a built in feature to avoid hundreds and hundreds of photos being stored on the server while not available to the public. When people publicly post, we get an idea if someone is abusing the feature (posting insane amounts of photos each day, which I doubt anyone will do) but if it is done through PMs we have no way to avoid, or even know, when people are using this site to share large amount of photos.

For now I'm going to be leaving this feature as it is, my hope is that if people have pictures to share they are free to share them on the forum. Does anyone have a problem with this? I would love to hear example of why people would need this feature, I could be swayed.
 
The reason I mentionned it is because I was trying to send a picture of my Arduino wiring to Willy to get some help. As I hate Facebook, that ended up in a thread on the forum. This is touchy though as my learning will be public but, hey, people can learn from it, so I don't care.
 
I could see how it could be useful for that kind of project. Yes it would be cool to see to progress but I could also understand people not wanting to being public about some learning processes. I'll see about maybe having a very small limit for it so people can share low quality photos through PMs.
 
As I said, I really hate Facebook. But most other people can use it for that matter. It will probably be better than sharing lo-res pictures for most folks. I wouldn't bother about it Justin. ;)
 
PM/picture upload: I think this is a convenient option to have without the need to use external image hosts or to exchange emails. I wouldn't expect people to mass upload images this way (could there be limit set for number and size to make sure?).
PM: Would it be possible to offer options like "start PM" when hovering the mouse over the avatar? Going through "inbox/start new conversation"+entering participants is less direct. Profile information could be shown the same way. I'm not sure whether likes and trophy points are really that important anyway.
home/structure: Would it be possible to cascade or have subfolders of some discussion headers? It would be nice to have a short(er) start page and still have separate discussions accessible with one click e.g. "All Other CPs" -> "All Other CPs (Aldrovanda, Brocchinea, Byblis,...)" with the genera in brackets being active links to the individual discussions.
new posts/activity: New Post is not quite as useful as "Activity" that could list all recent posts chronologically instead of threads. A reload does not reorder the latter either.

Just some thoughts...

Meabe we can have a different favicon without illustration when it really small but keep the regular one for medium and large icon ?

Favicon was on my radar, this will push me to get it done. Added.
 
The editing of posts is very possible and an easy change. I've set the time limit to 30 minutes in case of spelling mistakes or anything else a member would want to change. We've kept this as the same format at the other forum as we had major problems with new members editing their posts or deleted posts and completely ruining threads and discussions. All this being said I am happy to give more editing powers to members that wish to use them for selling or for use in the native CP database. Happy to make any additional changes if people can give me reasons.
 
home/structure: How about a new entry "Animals" under the header "Carnivorous Plant Companions"? Here you could post facinating or ugly bugs, some of which find themselve fed to some plant like the Giant Hornet or Springtails. You could also show your house pets, wild birds or squirrels play havoc in your CP garden. Maybe this could be a place to discuss keeping fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, spiders, etc. as a hobby, too.
I would also fuse "CP 4 sale" with "CP resources" and add "CPSC Seed Bank" as a new subfolder.
