Feeding mealworms on a string
IMG_20200928_121237.jpg

My first attempt at using a monocular compound microscope for bugs. 100x (eyepiece is WF25x and 4x objective lens). Used iPhone at eyepiece to record the videos. I'm going to play around with lighting next time.

Found a bug trapped in sundew with handheld USB. Used fine tweezers to capture and view with optical. I gave up after a while because this little critter kept crawling out of view.

Any ideas as to the type of bug??

Eventually and unfortunately I slayed the beast and dragged its lifeless corpse into a slurpie cup, later transferring it into into a mason jar, it’s now in my fearsome bugs collection.

I believe I have identified it as a Ocean Ragworm feeding on whatever it could find in the big blue until the tide went out and a Seagull grabbed it. I can only assume it fought the Seagull off, maybe even killed the Seagull.. i encountered the great Ragworm beast while it was making its escape back to the ocean with the business bits of my work vehicle. That only seemed to slow it down until I took pity on it and tried to help it out with fresh water which it seems it is deathly allergic too.
