Pollination time has arrived.

I'm currently pollinating flowers on my purpurea species. Some of the best plants I self pollinate as they are popular, but more people are interested in fancy crosses these days, which command a high price if they look good. My heart is still very much in collecting location plants, which go into my national heritage collection (UK).
Everything about purpurea species fascinating to me, trying to find out everything I can learn about them. Flowers of course can help identify your plants but there always seems to be some that look that little bit different. Here's a quick guide to purp flowers.
Sarracenia rosea are always the first to flower, the flower stalks are short and petals generally pale pastel colours. Sarracenia purpurea ssp venosa is next to flower, with very tall, dark pinks and purple flowers .
Sarracenia purpurea ssp purpurea generally has red flowers. Looking at mine location plants the flowers are various shades of red and different shapes. I've now been fortunate enough to see any wild population's, let alone in flower. Hopefully someone will post some photos on here .
Finally just a mention to the white flowers. Sarracenia purpurea ssp venosa var pallidiflora and Sarracenia rosea f.luteola. both are anthocyanin free and produce beautiful white flowers, some with a hint of lime.
Unfortunately I think most of my photos didn't upload. But, hopefully enough have to give you an idea. Anyway, back to the pollinating. 30 down, several more to complete. ...
