From Borneo Nepenthes bicalcarata is one of the largest of the Nepenthes (in size not pitchers) growing up to 60 feet tall from the swampy lowland forest floor up into the canopy. It has a mutually beneficial relationship with carpenter ants who live in the tendrils. The ants protect, clean and feed the plant in return the plant provides a home and hunting ground.

Temperature - (20-25) degrees C
Growing media - 100% sphagnum or 30% peat 70% perlite
Growing space - this will vine and grow tall if happy
Lighting - moderate 12 hours
Watering - kept moist
Humidity - 40-100%
Propagation - seed or cuttings
Special requirements - fairly easy, does not need as much light as some other nepenthes and also likes to be kept in wetter conditions.

Here is my young Nepenthes bicalcarata let’s see some pictures of yours

Your bical looks really nice, how old is it and how big are the pitchers? I got an orange one back in october as my first lowland terrarium plant but its not much to look at yet unfortunately.

My largest pitcher is only just 3 inches still just a little baby, far from the 60ft tall vining monster it can grow to in the wild. Growing up from the peaty ground and climbing up Into the tree canopy it’s the largest of the Nepenthes plants although apparently pitchers aren’t as large compared to plant size as a lot of other Nepenthes. This one grows in our living room at 20-23 degrees C with open room humidity 40-60% and Is kept in wet Sphagnum moss and moderate lighting. It’s in this community planter for not much longer!
