Dusted’s tent

Oof. Any thoughts on how they might have hitched in? They must have been lurking for a while if you're now finding them in all of your tents.

Not sure. I have windows open most of the time in the summer, so they could have gotten through the screen. I‘ve had them for several months I’m sure. Trying to remember if I brought in new plants in that time frame. I’m sure I have. Thankfully my CP aren’t that large yet.

I’m afraid I will have thrips and fungus gnats forever. I took clones of plants and chopped the mothers. Then sprayed the hell out of everything for several weeks. All the plants in four different tents still have low numbers that I control, but not eliminate. The CP tent is a bit easier since the plants are all relatively small.

I don’t think I have shown my filamentous sundew or new Helio from Labine. I have several sundew cuts that are doing well. The mother broadleaf formed a globe of leaves all stuck together which I had to pry apart. My regia is doing great. It’s not pretty today since I fed it last night. It tipped over but I just left it alone. Maybe the leaf on the soil will root.

Since I have managed to get three N. madagascarensis seedlings started, I got brave and started the Nepenthes seeds Willy gave away on his birthday. Pitchers on a couple of mine are getting fairly large already. Feeding with fish food on a regular basis.

I have room in my CP tent until spring, since I moved the flytraps and na pitcher plants into a cool dim bedroom for the winter.

I see Paolo has been treating seeds with GA3. I’ve been using it to help germinate my other seeds for a while so decided to try it on the Nepenthes seeds Willy sent out. I didn’t measure my concentration and only soaked for a few hours before dropping on the soil. We shall see. The last ones took 6 weeks to show.

I haven’t been able to eliminate the thrips from my cp tent so I ordered some systemic from Wiily. Also ordered some cp food pellets. If you don’t get food completely into a pitcher mouth it molds where it gets stuck I have found. Two new Nepenthes arriving this week from Davidd, even though I’m going to run out of room soon. I finally see the gemmea people talk about on my pigmy sundew.

If your tent can be close and hold the gas, you can easily kill all insect with Doktor Doom Total release fogger https://www.biofloral.com/insecticides/doktor-doom-go-green-nebulisateur-automatique-150-g-1-58101

I wonder if the fogger would coat the diodes on my expensive light. Some of my LED’s have a protective film added, others not.

Good question! For the treatment, it as to be at pitch black for best effectiveness. So you can turn off all lights for 24 hours and put a saran wrap on the expensive LED with the coating just for prevention or simply take out the expensive light for the treatment.

What’s cool with the gas, is it kill all the insect even if they hide because they have to breathe and there’s no escape for them.

As an old fart living alone it would be a pain in the arse to remove the light. It is just about four feet long and probably weights 30 pounds. (Sorry about the non metric reference). It’s a great light. 325 W wall draw. Switchable veg/flower spectrum. Switchable uv. I would have to remove all the plants and drop it onto the tent floor to get it out of the tent. It’s in a 2 x 4 tent so it is overkill.

I run some of my plants in a hydroponic system I have owned for 40 years. Back in the day we only had to buy two jugs to mix together. Nowadays it’s up to five jugs, since they make more money that way. Anyway, one of the jugs is a 2-3-5 blend with no micronutrients or hardness ions added, so I tried it on my baby Nepenthes. They were too pale for my liking, but seem to be enjoying these nutrients. Foliar spraying with kelp suspension is ok but is hard to time properly.

My newest Nepenthes arrived today. They were pretty cold when the mail lady brought them. I was expecting two but got six. I think they will survive. I only had enough moss and pots to plant five. I hurts me to throw out the last plant. Part of the problem was some of the plants were so large they wouldn’t fit into most of my available pots. I used an old nutrient bucket for one. I chopped off all the pitchers before planting to make them more manageable

They don't need big pots. Any medium is fine, peat/perlite etc.
The last one is in the compost. As it is I can’t fit all the new ones into my tents. I do have some plant hangers so I will look into suspending some. Right now they are all sitting in my kitchen. Still need to spray them with pyrethrum soap before I find a spot for them, just in case.
