Hi Lloyd - Where did you find a source for this one?! Lovely, and great to see it growing! Looks like you've made a thread for each of your species. Good! I look forward to the progress reports.

My E. tirucalli and Buttonia superba were doing badly. Turned out the plants were incredibly root bound. The pot was entirely filled with roots. As expected the roots of the Buttonia had completely grown into the Euphorbia root system. You can see it here. The Buttonia roots are reddish.

Woah, that’s quite the flower!!!!! How long do they last for? How difficult was this from seed to flowering? Would love to try it one day.

The flowers faded after a day but that might be because I pollinated them right away. It took me about 8 years to get a flower. The hardest part was figuring out the host.

Hi Lloyd,

I've come out of hiding (okay the distraction that comes with having small children) for this. Amazing! That is quite the accomplishment. Congrats!!! That's a very nice Orobanchaceae flower too. Even with my love or red flowers, I still can only think of one other species in the family I might have a preference to get blooming in cultivation: Diphelypaea tournefortii. But, even that one only has a slight edge. I'm really impressed!

I tried to get Diphelypaea tournefortii seeds and it was impossible. It's a very interesting plant.

Well here is the start to my attempt! I’m have 4 plants, 2 large and 2 small. I’ve sown seeds into one of each size and I want to see if the Buttonia negatively effect the plants enough for a noticeable growth difference.

Thanks again for the seed Lloyd!

I hope the seeds germinate. They were self pollinated. I'm hoping my second plant will flower so I can cross pollinate for possibly better germination.

My batch of seeds did germinate. It took about 5 weeks. Of course the squirrels dug up a lot of the little ones, so I had to put the plant inside. Lucklily the bigger ones were protected by a thicket of Euphorbia stems and weren't touched. Some are beyond the cotyledon stage which I believe means they have a haustorium connection to the host and should be viable.
